How
We Began and Why. |

“Magic
Moments for Autistic Kids” was the brainchild of Pat Ebbs
who has one severely Autistic granddaughter, and one grandson and
one granddaughter with Aspergers Syndrome. Pat was disheartened
by the lack of local funding and support for families affected by
Autism, so along with her son and daughters a few close friends
and a handful of parents with Autistic children “Magic Moments
for Autistic Kids” was founded in February 2002, and attained
registered charity status on 3rd September 2002.
Magic
Moments aims to raise money to fund holidays, parties outings,
activities to help to inject some sunshine into the very limited
world of an Autistic child. Magic Moments is also there to offer
support to all families and allow the siblings of Autistic families
to for a short period have a taste of normal childhood
The
group, which caters for a wide variety of age groups has become
very close knit, and as a result, the children interact extremely
well. Behaviour which may be viewed as strange or out of the ordinary
by some is, in this safe and friendly setting, seen for what it
is – a consequence of the Autistic Syndrome. We try to teach
through group get togethers social skills, which through time
can help to raise all the children’s self esteem. Everyone
is accepted for who and what they are and everyone is valued.

What
Are We All About |
|
|

Disability
can and often does split families up; siblings can either end up feeling
left out or can even end up becoming young carers. The main aim of
“Magic Moments” is twofold; to support and help the child
affected by Autism and also the parents and siblings of children with
Autism as we know from experience that the whole family structure
is affected by this syndrome. Regular
discos, parties, newsletters and a fantastic children’s magazine
all help to keep our members in touch and informed.
All
available financial resources are being targeted to achieve both
our short and long term goals.
